Mental Blocks

My earliest creative memories are playing with wooden blocks. I get the same delight precariously stacking them as a I did when I was a kid. The child-like façade of my Mental Blocks series is my way of disarming viewers before trojan-horsing in all manner of more grown-up concerns. Entertainment, possessions, and status markers give us both joy and disappointment. Are these mini monuments the ruins of something once grander, aspirational symbols, menacing fortresses, empty capitalist totems, forms of addiction? I’m interested in challenging myself, and viewers, to think with the sculptures, rather than think about them.
